Roll for Sanity: How Not to Run a Sandbox

  1. Sandbox just means that the players have free reign to explore the game and drive the campaign with their choices, rather than being led around by the nose with the GM's pre-planned adventures. It doesn't mean that the campaign is created whole cloth, bit by bit, as you play (although that is a legitimate way to sandbox, if that's your preference). It also has nothing to do with art (or a lack thereof). You can sandbox a commerical campaign setting like Faerun or Greyhawk by using random tables and player initiative.
